Baltimore Ravens Sign Mike Davis After JK Dobbins Injury
Dobbins was expected to make a significant impact this season, but it seems unlikely that he will be ready for the team’s regular-season opener against the New York Jets. The injury to his knee has forced him to miss the preseason, and it is unclear when he will return to the field.
Mike Davis
The Baltimore Ravens have signed veteran running back Mike Davis after JK Dobbins’ injury. The veteran has played for six NFL teams and has a career rushing average of 3.6 yards per carry. He’s expected to be a temporary replacement while Dobbins tries to get back into the lineup. Dobbins responded to the report on Twitter.
Although Dobbins isn’t cleared for contact yet, the Ravens still have no clear back-up for Week 1. Meanwhile, Gus Edwards is on the PUP list. This means that Davis is the most experienced back in the team’s backfield. He’s also getting more work with the first-team offense.
Kenyan Drake
After being released by the Las Vegas Raiders, Kenyan Drake was one of the most sought-after free agents. The Ravens signed him after making their roster to 53 players on Tuesday. However, they are also expected to be without projected starter J.K. Dobbins for at least four weeks due to a knee injury. That means Drake will likely have to wait for his chance to get on the field with the Ravens.
The Ravens are still uncertain about Dobbins’ availability for Sunday’s game against the Jets. The running back was listed on Thursday’s injury report as limited. If Dobbins doesn’t play, the Ravens will likely use Drake, who was named to the active roster last month.
Lamar Jackson
Lamar Jackson’s knee injury isn’t the only major news in Baltimore, as Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins also is on the injured reserve. Both are recovering from an ACL tear suffered last August. Dobbins is expected to be out a couple of weeks. The Ravens have another key player coming back from a torn ACL: running back Gus Edwards. Edwards is on the PUP list, too.
The Ravens’ backfield is a big question mark for fantasy football. Dobbins has been limited at practice Friday, and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Jets. Dobbins is a solid fantasy option if he’s healthy. But with the addition of free agent Kenyan Drake, the Ravens may be playing a catch-up game with a limited Dobbins.
Travis Jones
The Baltimore Ravens have made several changes to their roster ahead of their Week 1 game against the Cleveland Browns. All-Pro tackle Ronnie Stanley is a question mark for the contest after missing practice on Sept. 8 because of an injury. In addition to Stanley, rookie defensive lineman Travis Jones is also a question mark for Sunday’s contest. The rookie was injured in the preseason against Arizona on Aug. 21 and was originally expected to miss three to five weeks.
While Dobbins’ status is still unclear, the Ravens have no incentive to rush him back to the field for Week 1. Even if he does return, the team will likely be forced to use less talented options until he returns. Instead, the Ravens should gradually transition Dobbins into a bigger role as the season goes on.
Zach Wilson
Jets QB Zach Wilson is doubtful to return after suffering an apparent knee injury. Wilson is expected to miss the rest of the game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The team will evaluate the severity of Wilson’s injury, but he’s likely to miss two to four weeks.
Dobbins’ status has fluctuated over the past week, but he’s expected to be ready for Week 1 against the New York Jets. But the Ravens won’t be able to rely on him as a full-time starter, which could mean the team relies on free-agent additions.
